About The Ancient Near East Today
The Ancient Near East Today (ANE Today) is ASOR’s open-access weekly digital magazine for public outreach, disseminating the latest research, insights, and news about the ancient Near East and beyond. Free to everyone, ANE Today constitutes an important part of ASOR’s mission to encourage public understanding of the cultures and history of the Near East from earliest times until today.
At the core of ANE Today are short feature articles by emerging and established scholars discussing a variety of topics related to the ancient world. These articles are aimed at non-specialists, providing the public, students, and researchers alike with snapshots of the latest research and thinking about the ancient world. These articles are published on ASOR’s website and are completely open-access.
Issues of ANE Today are disseminated weekly via email to members of the Friends of ASOR (see an example of the weekly issue here). To receive The Ancient Near East Today, simply register with Friends of ASOR – it’s free and you only need to provide a name and email address.

Editorial Policy
The Ancient Near East Today (ANE Today) seeks to publish short articles aimed at a non-scholarly audience dealing with various topics of the ancient Near East in the past and the present, including (but not limited to) summaries of recent fieldwork and published research; museum exhibitions; ASOR outreach initiatives; and general topics of interest for both students and enthusiasts. The geographic scope is broad, covering the region from the Atlantic to Afghanistan and anywhere that ancient Near Eastern materials and culture have made an impact.
Articles in ANE Today are published as open-access content on the ASOR website and disseminated first through the weekly issue of The Ancient Near East Today, an e-magazine delivered via email to Friends of ASOR, and subsequently promoted on ASOR’s social media channels.
ANE Today follows ASOR’s Policy on Professional Conduct, especially as pertains to publications (Section III.E): https://www.asor.org/about-asor/policies/policy-on-professional-conduct/
